How I can help

Three things people most often come to me with

If you recognise yourself in any of this, it isn’t weakness or “just how you are”. It’s something we can work on.

Depression and low mood

Step by step we reconnect with feelings and wants that have gone numb, and look for what gives you energy. With severe depression, therapy works best alongside care from a psychiatrist.

How it can feel

  • Nothing brings joy and it’s hard to get interested in anything
  • Tiredness that rest doesn’t fix
  • Emptiness, guilt, a sense that nothing matters
  • Getting up and starting the day feels hard

Self-esteem

We look at where the harsh demands on yourself came from, and practise meeting yourself with respect and warmth, not only criticism.

How it can feel

  • Constantly comparing yourself to others
  • An inner critic that says “I’m not good enough”
  • Needing approval and praise to feel okay
  • Finding it hard to own your achievements

Self-confidence

We strengthen your contact with what you actually want and your ability to rely on yourself, so you can act even when you feel anxious.

How it can feel

  • Struggling to say no or hold your boundaries
  • Fear of mistakes, criticism or speaking up
  • Second-guessing every step and putting off decisions
  • Feeling your opinion matters less than other people’s

Something else on your mind? Write to me. We’ll see whether I can help, or I’ll suggest who to turn to.

Approach

Gestalt therapy: attention to what is happening now

Gestalt therapy helps you notice your feelings, needs and habitual ways of reacting. We don’t only talk about the past; we look at how it shows up in your life today: in your body, your relationships and in the session itself.

A central idea in Gestalt is the cycle of contact: the path from a need arising to that need being met. Choose a stage to read about it.

Stage 1 / 6Sensation

The body notices first: tension, tiredness, a heaviness in the chest, hunger.

Unfinished business

When the cycle is interrupted, say a feeling goes unnoticed or an action never happens, the situation stays unfinished and keeps draining energy. Low mood and self-doubt often look like this. In therapy we look carefully for where the cycle breaks off and help it complete.

About me

Bekzod Mavlonov

Psychologist and Gestalt therapist

The people I work with are adults who feel they aren’t living fully: worn out, no longer enjoying things, constantly doubting themselves. My work is grounded in the Gestalt approach and in attention to what is happening for you here and now.

I want therapy to be a place where you can talk about anything without fear of being judged. I don’t hand out ready-made advice. Together we explore what’s going on for you and look for your own answers.

Questions

Common questions

Didn’t find your answer? Just ask me directly.

How is a psychologist different from a psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and can prescribe medication. A psychologist doesn’t prescribe and works through conversation and the therapeutic relationship. With more severe difficulties, the two work well together.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you bring. Sorting out a specific situation can take a few sessions; deeper change usually takes several months. We discuss this together and check in regularly.

Is it confidential?

Yes. I don’t share information about you with anyone. The only exception is when there is an immediate risk to someone’s life.

Does online therapy work?

For most concerns, online sessions work as well as meeting in person. What matters most is a quiet place where you can speak freely.

I don’t know how to put my problem into words. Can I still come?

Yes, that’s very common. You don’t need a clear description. A sense that something isn’t right is enough, and we’ll work it out together.

What language are sessions in?

Uzbek, Russian or English, whichever you find easiest to talk about yourself in. You can choose when you book.

Do you work with teenagers?

No. I work with adults aged 18 and over.
